Table to Table Expands I-Rescue Food Rescue App to Three New Counties in New Jersey

Hasbrouck Heights, NJ – Table to Table, New Jersey’s first food rescue organization, is expanding its I-Rescue app beyond Bergen County to include Essex, Hudson, and Passaic counties. The expansion aims to alleviate food insecurity by connecting volunteers to recipient agencies such as food pantries and shelters that feed communities in need. The roll-out of I-Rescue will begin in Wayne and Clifton (Passaic County), followed by Montclair (Essex County), and then Hoboken and Jersey City (Hudson County).

I-Rescue is available on iOS and Google Play, and interested individuals can download the app or learn more about volunteering by visiting https://tabletotable.org/i-rescue/. The app’s design is perfect for participation during the current times, as minimal direct contact is required, and it is simple to use and infinitely flexible based on someone’s availability or location.

Table to Table’s I-Rescue expansion into the new counties is made possible by a generous anonymous donor, Blue Cross/Blue Shield of New Jersey, and Konica Minolta. To help Table to Table in their mission to eliminate food insecurity in Northern New Jersey, interested parties can donate through their website. Corporate partners are also welcome to support the organization’s cause by clicking here or emailing Eda Tekeoglu.

Table to Table is committed to feeding Northern New Jersey’s hungry neighbors by rescuing and delivering healthy, fresh, and perishable food from grocery stores, food distributors, and restaurants. In partnership with hundreds of recipient organizations, such as food pantries, senior centers, and school programs, Table to Table supports health and wellness for all. Since its inception in 1999, Table to Table has rescued and delivered the equivalent of 295 million meals and saved nearly 96,000 tons of potentially wasted food from landfills. Having finally seen Spider-Man: No Way Home, I can confirm that the saying, “not all heroes wear capes,” is true. Not once during the movie did I see Peter Parker’s alter ego swinging around town with a cape waving in the wind. Still, I think the saying is probably meant to be taken less literally than that.

It’s true, real heroes don’t need to be seven-foot-tall gods or wear metal cuffs to ward off enemies. They can be individuals just like you and me. And now, thanks to New Jersey’s first food rescue charity, founded in 1999, Table to Table, it’s never been easier to “be a hero.”

The organization’s I-Rescue app, recently expanded its reach. It now connects volunteers in Bergen, Essex, Hudson, and Passaic Counties to recipient agencies such as food pantries and shelters that feed communities in need. Developed through a partnership between Table to Table, Bergen County and the Russell Berrie Foundation, the app first launched about a year ago.

Who, What, Where

Table to Table has helped feed economically disadvantaged families throughout Essex, Hudson, Bergen, and Passaic Counties. What started out as a group of passionate volunteers with a donated van in 1999, has progressed into something quite magnificent.

Today, Table to Table has a fleet of seven refrigerated trucks that pick up fresh food from over 200 donor restaurants and grocery stores. To date, they have delivered over 227 million meals through their network of centralized distribution hubs in Newark, Bayonne, Jersey City, and Paterson.

How Can I Help?

Somewhere on your phone, maybe between your Instagram and Uber apps, you can download Table to Table’s I-Rescue app and immediately start making a difference. It’s easy to register as a volunteer and begin claiming rescued food at designated times that fit your schedule. And just like that, your comic book origin will begin.

“Our I-Rescue app has rescued and delivered more than 129,000 pounds of fresh food to hungry New Jerseyans,” said Julie Kinner, VP of operations. Kinner stresses that this form of volunteering requires minimal direct contact, which helps to reduce Covid fears.

If you don’t have a vehicle, you can still offer support. You can hold your own fundraiser or donate your time at a future event. And you can always donate financially or become a food donor.

Table to Table, New Jersey’s first food rescue organization, will expand its I-Rescue app beyond Bergen County to include Essex, Hudson, and Passaic Counties.  Only one year after its launch, I-Rescue’s footprint will broaden to help alleviate food insecurity by connecting volunteers—who rescue free, fresh and donated food from restaurants and grocery stores—to recipient agencies such as food pantries and shelters that feed communities in need. I-Rescue is available on iOS and Google Play. To download I-Rescue, volunteer or learn more, click here.

“In only a year, our I-Rescue app has rescued and delivered more than 129,000 pounds of fresh food to hungry New Jerseyans,” says Julie Kinner, VP of Operations for Table to Table. “Our goal is to build on the successes and best practices of the pilot App program initially launched only in Bergen County, in a targeted, strategic, and sequential manner that will enable us to bring more food, while growing awareness and engaging community volunteers, into the other counties we serve,” Kinner concluded.

The roll-out of I-Rescue will be staggered beginning in key cities including: Wayne and Clifton (Passaic County), followed by Montclair (Essex County) and then Hoboken and Jersey City (Hudson County).

“Reliance on volunteers is a critical component of the program and the app’s design makes it perfect for participation during our current times,” Kinner comments. “Minimal direct contact is required, and it is simple to use and infinitely flexible based on someone’s availability or location,” Kinner concludes.
