HASBROUCK HEIGHTS, NJ / FAIRFIELD, NJ (July 28, 2022) – In support of Hasbrouck Heights, NJ-based non-profit Table to Table, KearnyBank Foundation has contributed funding equivalent to the cost of delivering 75,000 healthy meals to food insecure individuals throughout Bergen, Essex, Hudson, and Passaic counties.

Focused on “rescuing” food from some 200 donor supermarkets, food distributors, restaurants, and commercial kitchens, Table to Table, NJ’s first food rescue organization, provides same-day, free-of-charge delivery to more than 250 community organizations. These include food pantries, shelters, food banks, day care/after school programs, and senior centers.

“Our organization is a crucial resource for many New Jersey residents, but we could not continue helping if it were not for the generous donations of our supporters like KearnyBank Foundation,” says Ilene Isaacs, Executive Director, Table to Table. “We’ll be using these particular funds to bolster our Bag a Lunch, Help a Bunch and Chefs Gala fundraisers, which—like all of our programs—support our mission of feeding hungry neighbors throughout northern New Jersey.”

Since its establishment in 1999, Table to Table has rescued and delivered the equivalent of 295 million meals, saving about 96,000 tons of potentially wasted food from landfills. In 2021 alone, the organization provided 38 million meals.

“The KearnyBank Foundation exists to provide assistance throughout areas where we have the privilege of conducting business,” says Kearny Bank President and CEO Craig Montanaro. “Table to Table’s ongoing efforts to combat hunger across northeastern New Jersey are remarkable. It’s a fantastic organization, and one we’re proud to contribute to.”

During 2021, the KearnyBank Foundation donated a total of more than $700,000 to 63 recipient organizations. The funds were contributed across four specific categories—Education, Quality of Life, Housing, and Community.

Nearly 30 nonprofits in the Garden State will receive grants from Bank of America to help fund efforts to drive economic opportunity for individuals and families.

BofA – which boasts 11,000 employees in N.J. – announced the awards July 20. According to the financial institution, the grants focus on providing workforce development and education tools to help people start out on the path to employment, and beyond.

They also address needs for ensuring stability, like access to food.

“We’ve chosen to partner with nonprofits that address the most critical issues facing New Jersey, including workforce development, food insecurity, and economic and social progress,” said Alberto Garofalo, president, Bank of America New Jersey. “Our philanthropic investment in these organizations helps us deploy capital locally, where it will have the most impact and build sustainable communities.”

In New Jersey, where the cost of living is notoriously and comparatively high, employment plays a key part in driving economic mobility. And that’s an area where New Jersey is still lagging following the onset of COVID-19. The national unemployment rate is 3.6%. Meanwhile – and though the state has added back more than 95% of jobs lost at the pandemic’s peak in spring 2020 – New Jersey’s was still above that at 3.9%, according to preliminary data released in June 2022.

That’s why Bank of America says it’s focusing on workforce development and educational opportunities in the state – to provide the tools and means to achieve employment.

Since 2017, BofA says it’s provided $30 million to groups in the Garden State as part of its commitment to responsible growth. On top of that, its workers here have contributed their time: 350,000 volunteer hours of it.

The complete list of grant recipients is:

  • America’s Grow-a-Row
  • Community FoodBank of NJ
  • CUMAC Echo
  • Elijah’s Promise
  • Eva’s Village
  • Fulfill
  • Homefront

A refrigerated truck stolen from a Bergen County food pantry has been found.

The truck was stolen on Monday from Table to Table’s headquarters in Lodi. It was found in another company’s parking lot on Tuesday.

Table to Table provides meals to people in need throughout northern New Jersey. Hurricane Ida destroyed the organization’s entire fleet of trucks last September. They have been using rental trucks ever since.

“With us, it’s not like, ‘OK, we lose a day of business, profits might be a little lower during the period of time that the truck isn’t there.’ That’s not it. People need to eat, every single day. And without a truck and without our being able to bring that food, in many cases, they can’t,” says executive director Ilene Isaacs.

The truck has water damage because its window was left open during Monday’s rainstorm. The thief abandoned it and hasn’t been caught.

Anyone who may have information is asked to contact the police.

HASBROUCK HEIGHTS, NJ – A Hasbrouck Heights food rescue organization’s truck which was stolen early Monday has been recovered, according to the organization.

The truck was found in a commercial lot in Lodi, according to Maria Sinopoli, Director of Marketing Communications. Aside from some minor damage and a stolen GPS tracking system, the truck will be back up and running and making deliveries, she said.  According to the Lodi Police Department, the investigation is ongoing.

A Table to Table refrigerator delivery truck was stolen from the lot in Lodi early Monday morning at 2:14 am. The discovery was made by the driver. The group is now down to five trucks to deliver food to sites throughout four counties in northern New Jersey.

The operations team is working to ensure that food rescues are being made. This situation comes at a particularly challenging time, as the organization’s entire fleet of trucks was destroyed in the aftermath of Hurricane Ida in September 2021. It was forced to use rental trucks for nearly a year due to supply issues. The group will now incur additional transportation expenses due to the loss.

Table to Table is a community-based food rescue program that collects prepared and perishable food and delivers it to organizations serving the hungry in the Bergen, Essex, Hudson, and Passaic counties of New Jersey.

Nonprofit Welcomes Volunteers to Rescue Food

Hasbrouck Heights, NJ, May 16, 2022 – Timed to “National Do Something Good for Your Neighbor Day” on May 16th, Table to Table, New Jersey’s first food rescue organization, will expand its I-Rescue app beyond Bergen County to include Essex, Hudson, and Passaic Counties. Only one year after its launch, I-Rescue’s footprint will broaden to help alleviate food insecurity by connecting volunteers—who rescue free, fresh and donated food from restaurants and grocery stores—to recipient agencies such as food pantries and shelters that feed communities in need. I-Rescue is available on iOS and Google Play. To download I-Rescue, volunteer or learn more, visit: https://tabletotable.org/i-rescue/

“In only a year, our I-Rescue app has rescued and delivered more than 129,000 pounds of fresh food to hungry New Jerseyans,” says Julie Kinner, VP of Operations for Table to Table. “Our goal is to build on the successes and best practices of the pilot App program initially launched only in Bergen County, in a targeted, strategic, and sequential manner that will enable us to bring more food, while growing awareness and engaging community volunteers, into the other counties we serve,” Kinner concluded.

The roll-out of I-Rescue will be staggered beginning in key cities including: Wayne and Clifton (Passaic County), followed by Montclair (Essex County) and then Hoboken and Jersey City (Hudson County).

“Reliance on volunteers is a critical component of the program and the app’s design makes it perfect for participation during our current times,” Kinner comments.  “Minimal direct contact is required, and it is simple to use and infinitely flexible based on someone’s availability or location,” Kinner concludes.

Expansion of Table to Table’s I-Rescue into Essex, Hudson and Passaic Counties is made possible by a generous, anonymous donor, Blue Cross/Blue Shield of New Jersey and Konica Minolta.
