DoorDash partners with Hasbrouck Heights food rescue org Table to Table

Hasbrouck Heights food rescue organization Table to Table is partnering with DoorDash on its Bag a Lunch, Help a Bunch campaign, a grassroots initiative that encourages folks to donate the equivalent of one day’s lunch money to help feed others.

The endeavor aims to provide 25,000 meals to folks who need it; DoorDash is the campaign’s financial sponsor, according to an April 28 announcement.

Additionally, the online food ordering and delivery platform operator will transport the meals to partner organizations that serve those who need it. The yearlong collaboration supports the organizations’ shared mission to combat food insecurity in northern New Jersey.

“The Table to Table team is very excited about the opportunity to further expand our reach into communities faced with the challenges of food insecurity,” said Ilene Isaacs, executive director of Table to Table. “DoorDash’s commitment to support communities in need fittingly complements our mission.”

DoorDash will power deliveries that support food rescues that are initiated through Table to Table’s I-Rescue app.

Since its inception in 1999, Table to Table has rescued and delivered fresh and perishable food from grocery stores, food distributors and restaurants to the tune of approximately 257 million meals, and it’s saved 83,000 tons of potentially wasted food from landfills. Through the end of 2022, Dashers will collect food from donors such as grocery stores and restaurants and deliver it to recipient agencies such as pantries and shelters.

“We are thrilled to partner with Table to Table to broaden food access for New Jersey residents in need,” said Sascha Owen, senior government relations manager of DoorDash. “Families across northern New Jersey depend on Table to Table to increase access to nutritious meals, and this partnership will allow them to leverage DoorDash’s logistics to expand the organization’s reach and help support more of our neighbors in need.”

Table to Table’s Bag-a-Lunch, Help a Bunch campaign also accepts donations from the community for what they would spend on lunch for a week, month or more.
