Table to Table Expands I-Rescue Food Rescue App to Three New Counties in New Jersey

Hasbrouck Heights, NJ – Table to Table, New Jersey’s first food rescue organization, is expanding its I-Rescue app beyond Bergen County to include Essex, Hudson, and Passaic counties. The expansion aims to alleviate food insecurity by connecting volunteers to recipient agencies such as food pantries and shelters that feed communities in need. The roll-out of I-Rescue will begin in Wayne and Clifton (Passaic County), followed by Montclair (Essex County), and then Hoboken and Jersey City (Hudson County).

I-Rescue is available on iOS and Google Play, and interested individuals can download the app or learn more about volunteering by visiting https://tabletotable.org/i-rescue/. The app’s design is perfect for participation during the current times, as minimal direct contact is required, and it is simple to use and infinitely flexible based on someone’s availability or location.

Table to Table’s I-Rescue expansion into the new counties is made possible by a generous anonymous donor, Blue Cross/Blue Shield of New Jersey, and Konica Minolta. To help Table to Table in their mission to eliminate food insecurity in Northern New Jersey, interested parties can donate through their website. Corporate partners are also welcome to support the organization’s cause by clicking here.

Table to Table is committed to feeding Northern New Jersey’s hungry neighbors by rescuing and delivering healthy, fresh, and perishable food from grocery stores, food distributors, and restaurants. In partnership with hundreds of recipient organizations, such as food pantries, senior centers, and school programs, Table to Table supports health and wellness for all. Since its inception in 1999, Table to Table has rescued and delivered the equivalent of 295 million meals and saved nearly 96,000 tons of potentially wasted food from landfills. Through its I-Rescue app, Table to Table has expanded its distribution footprint to include donations that serve smaller donors and recipient organizations. Independently funded through grants and donations, Table to Table is proud of its Charity Navigator 4-Star Rating for 12 consecutive years. Learn more by visiting https://tabletotable.org/.

Having finally seen Spider-Man: No Way Home, I can confirm that the saying, “not all heroes wear capes,” is true. Not once during the movie did I see Peter Parker’s alter ego swinging around town with a cape waving in the wind. Still, I think the saying is probably meant to be taken less literally than that.

It’s true, real heroes don’t need to be seven-foot-tall gods or wear metal cuffs to ward off enemies. They can be individuals just like you and me. And now, thanks to New Jersey’s first food rescue charity, founded in 1999, Table to Table, it’s never been easier to “be a hero.”

The organization’s I-Rescue app, recently expanded its reach. It now connects volunteers in Bergen, Essex, Hudson, and Passaic Counties to recipient agencies such as food pantries and shelters that feed communities in need. Developed through a partnership between Table to Table, Bergen County and the Russell Berrie Foundation, the app first launched about a year ago.

Who, What, Where

Table to Table has helped feed economically disadvantaged families throughout Essex, Hudson, Bergen, and Passaic Counties. What started out as a group of passionate volunteers with a donated van in 1999, has progressed into something quite magnificent.

Today, Table to Table has a fleet of seven refrigerated trucks that pick up fresh food from over 200 donor restaurants and grocery stores. To date, they have delivered over 227 million meals through their network of centralized distribution hubs in Newark, Bayonne, Jersey City, and Paterson.

How Can I Help?

Somewhere on your phone, maybe between your Instagram and Uber apps, you can download Table to Table’s I-Rescue app and immediately start making a difference. It’s easy to register as a volunteer and begin claiming rescued food at designated times that fit your schedule. And just like that, your comic book origin will begin.

“Our I-Rescue app has rescued and delivered more than 129,000 pounds of fresh food to hungry New Jerseyans,” said Julie Kinner, VP of operations. Kinner stresses that this form of volunteering requires minimal direct contact, which helps to reduce Covid fears.

If you don’t have a vehicle, you can still offer support. You can hold your own fundraiser or donate your time at a future event. And you can always donate financially or become a food donor.

Walk with Team Park Ridge Rotary Club to get fit, win prizes, and help those in need. The team is serving Park Ridge, Woodcliff Lake, and Montvale in Table to Table’s Virtual Walk until April 30th. The event’s goal is to help feed neighbors in need, one step at a time. You can walk, run, bike, or hike any distance, anywhere, and recruit your friends, family, co-workers, and even your dog.

Table to Table, New Jersey’s first food rescue organization, aims to raise enough money to provide one million meals for Northern New Jersey neighbors in need. According to the event invitation, one in nine New Jersey residents, and nearly one in five New Jersey children, are food-insecure.

Maria Sinopoli of Table to Table says that Terry Ciulla and members of the Park Ridge Rotary Club have been supportive of the effort, and the two organizations have formed a partnership to help those experiencing food insecurity. Rotary Club volunteers, along with their families, use Table to Table’s I-Rescue app to rescue fresh, wholesome food and deliver it to those in need.

To participate, use the hashtag #TabletoTableWalk to share your walk photos and tell them why you walk. Participants using this hashtag will be entered to win a $50 Amazon gift card. Hasbrouck Heights food rescue organization Table to Table is partnering with DoorDash on its Bag a Lunch, Help a Bunch campaign, a grassroots initiative that encourages folks to donate the equivalent of one day’s lunch money to help feed others.

The endeavor aims to provide 25,000 meals to folks who need it; DoorDash is the campaign’s financial sponsor, according to an April 28 announcement.

Additionally, the online food ordering and delivery platform operator will transport the meals to partner organizations that serve those who need it. The yearlong collaboration supports the organizations’ shared mission to combat food insecurity in northern New Jersey.

“The Table to Table team is very excited about the opportunity to further expand our reach into communities faced with the challenges of food insecurity,” said Ilene Isaacs, executive director of Table to Table. “DoorDash’s commitment to support communities in need fittingly complements our mission.”

DoorDash will power deliveries that support food rescues that are initiated through Table to Table’s I-Rescue app.

Since its inception in 1999, Table to Table has rescued and delivered fresh and perishable food from grocery stores, food distributors and restaurants to the tune of approximately 257 million meals, and it’s saved 83,000 tons of potentially wasted food from landfills. Through the end of 2022, Dashers will collect food from donors such as grocery stores and restaurants and deliver it to recipient agencies such as pantries and shelters.

“We are thrilled to partner with Table to Table to broaden food access for New Jersey residents in need,” said Sascha Owen, senior government relations manager of DoorDash. “Families across northern New Jersey depend on Table to Table to increase access to nutritious meals, and this partnership will allow them to leverage DoorDash’s logistics to expand the organization’s reach and help support more of our neighbors in need.”

Table to Table’s Bag-a-Lunch, Help a Bunch campaign also accepts donations from the community for what they would spend on lunch for a week, month or more.

Table to Table, New Jersey’s first food rescue organization, will expand its I-Rescue app beyond Bergen County to include Essex, Hudson, and Passaic Counties.  Only one year after its launch, I-Rescue’s footprint will broaden to help alleviate food insecurity by connecting volunteers—who rescue free, fresh and donated food from restaurants and grocery stores—to recipient agencies such as food pantries and shelters that feed communities in need. I-Rescue is available on iOS and Google Play. To download I-Rescue, volunteer or learn more, click here.

“In only a year, our I-Rescue app has rescued and delivered more than 129,000 pounds of fresh food to hungry New Jerseyans,” says Julie Kinner, VP of Operations for Table to Table. “Our goal is to build on the successes and best practices of the pilot App program initially launched only in Bergen County, in a targeted, strategic, and sequential manner that will enable us to bring more food, while growing awareness and engaging community volunteers, into the other counties we serve,” Kinner concluded.

The roll-out of I-Rescue will be staggered beginning in key cities including: Wayne and Clifton (Passaic County), followed by Montclair (Essex County) and then Hoboken and Jersey City (Hudson County).

“Reliance on volunteers is a critical component of the program and the app’s design makes it perfect for participation during our current times,” Kinner comments. “Minimal direct contact is required, and it is simple to use and infinitely flexible based on someone’s availability or location,” Kinner concludes.

Expansion of Table to Table’s I-Rescue into Essex, Hudson and Passaic Counties is made possible by a generous, anonymous donor, Blue Cross/Blue Shield of New Jersey and Konica Minolta. One Fan Choice Nonprofit Will Be Awarded $100,000 In The Kentucky Fried Giving Challenge and KFC Needs Your Vote!

April 08, 2022 // Franchising.com // LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Earlier this year, KFC and its franchisees partnered with TikTok creator Isaiah Garza to launch a unique giving challenge, the first-ever grant program on TikTok benefiting nonprofits (#KentuckyFriedGivingChallenge), with $500,000 up for grabs for organizations fighting hunger across the U.S.

Today, Kentucky Fried Chicken and its franchisees announce they have selected 11 nonprofits fighting hunger across the U.S. as recipients of Kentucky Fried Giving Grants, with each organization receiving $40,000 to help continue addressing food insecurity in their communities. That’s not all – one nonprofit will receive an additional $60,000, making its total grant $100,000, and your vote could decide who gets it!

With grants totaling half a million dollars to help address food insecurity nationwide, the 11 Kentucky Fried Giving Grant recipients all serve vulnerable populations and fight hunger across the nation:

  • Table to Table (New Jersey) – Collects prepared and perishable food that would otherwise be wasted and delivers it to organizations serving the hungry.
  • We Don’t Waste (Colorado) – Helps reduce hunger and food waste in the Denver area by recovering quality, unused food from the food industry and delivering it to nonprofit partners.
  • Lasagna Love (Massachusetts) – Connects neighbors with neighbors through homemade meal delivery while eliminating the stigma around asking for help.
  • Celebration Nation, Inc. (California) – Helps the Latino community via programming, including a food bank to provide grocery bags filled with fruits and vegetables to assist farm workers in San Bernadino suffering from food insecurity.

  • Heart & Hand Center (Colorado) – Disrupts the cycle of poverty for children and families in northeast Denver through community-based programming, including weekly food giveaways and a community fridge to help families that suffer from food insecurity.
  • Sharing Love with Others (California) – Enhances the quality of life of the less fortunate, specifically the houseless community on Skid Row, by providing warm meals, water, medical services, clothing and more.
  • Restoring Hope (California) – Provides aid and assistance including a monthly food bank and emergency food assistance.
  • New Beginnings Crossroads Fellowship (Ohio) – Hosts a food pantry that’s been serving the community and providing meals to those in need in Salem, Ohio since 2011.
  • Leah Kuczinski Legacy Foundation (New York) – Performs good deeds including feeding the hungry in honor of a young teen who died in a tragic accident.
  • Ladies of Charity Calvert County, Inc. (Maryland) – Aids those in need, primarily through the food pantry, which has provided for the community for over 30 years.

Fighting hunger has long been a part of KFC’s DNA. In recent years, KFC and its franchisees have donated over three million pieces of chicken and partnered with notable nonprofit organizations like Meals on Wheels and Big Brothers Big Sisters of America to feed frontline healthcare workers, students, teachers and homebound seniors in need.
