Hurricane Heroics

Hurricane Irene and the non-stop rain that followed in her path took us all by surprise but we’re proud to report that we were able to continue serving the hardest-hit areas in Passaic County and Newark less than 24 hours after the storm. Though many of our food donors were closed because they had no electricity, all five of our trucks were on the road on Monday morning, picking up whatever food they could and delivering it to as many agencies as could accept it. Our drivers worked long hours, sat in nightmarish traffic – but managed during the two weeks of the hurricane and the rain-soaked aftermath to deliver over ¼ million meals – including food for the relief volunteers who were working 24/7 cleaning up the disaster. Kudos to our amazing drivers, who give new meaning to the words dedication and excellence!
